The homebuying process
  • Make use of our cost of moving tools to work out how much you can afford to spend on a property
  • Speak to a dot advisor about your mortgage & protection needs
  • Arrange an agreement in principle with your favoured lender
  • You are now ready to start looking for your new home. Through our relationship with Townends Estate Agents we can also help with this stage of the process
  • Decide which solicitor will work on your sale and purchase
  • Put in an offer on your dream home – ideally you will already have accepted an offer on your existing home and the sale will be progressing smoothly towards an agreed exchange date
  • Work with your dot advisor to complete the paperwork to update your current mortgage deal or complete an application for a new mortgage product
  • It is important that you have a full understanding of the condition of your new home and should therefore arrange for a survey to be carried out. We work in partnership with Tyser Greenwood Surveyors and can help you arrange a survey
  • Speak to your dot advisor about obtaining a quote for buildings insurance which will need to be in place before the purchase completes
  • Instruct your solicitor and set target dates for the exchange and completion of your purchase
  • If you are selling your current home and buying a new one, you need to make sure that you are exchange contracts on your purchase and sale at the same time – otherwise you are in danger of either ending up with two houses or selling your own without having one to move to!
  • Book a removal company and make arrangements for your post to be redirected
  • Start choosing your curtains!

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. There may be a fee for mortgage advice, the precise amount of the fee will depend upon your circumstanes, but we estimate that it will be £250.
